On the first night of Channukah, December 1997, many leaders of the world participated in the candle lighting of the menorah. In Ottawa, Canada, Prime Minister Jean Chretien participated in the candle lighting. Included in the ceremony were many speeches given by Canadian dignitaries, Israeli Ambassador David Sultan and others. The actual candle lighting was led by our Cantor Benlolo and was accompanied by Cantors Chaiet, Levinson, Subar and Apptowitzer. Cantor Benlolo is lighting the first candle in this photo.

In this photo, Cantor Benlolo shares a private moment with Prime Minister Jean Chretien. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Cantor Benlolo and Mrs. Shirley S. led the Beth Shalom West Youth Choir in Channukah songs.
