Women's Megillah Reading - March 2005
The gantze megilla about BSW's women's
megilla reading This past Purim, fourteen women from Beth Shalom West and several
other synagogues participated in a women's megilla reading at BSW. They
included Shoshana Kagedan, Minda Wershof,Neima Langner, Sarah Beutel, Leah Cohen,
Liat Ben Choreen, Golda Feig, NavaLightstone, Noga Reiss, Ruth Fyman, Katherine
Moss, Orly Aaron, Ayala Sher, and Ruta Fluxgold.
A hearty Mazel Tov to each of the
above-noted readers for undertaking this effort; and for the working as hard
as each of them did in learning the 'teamim' (the system of notes) specific
to Megillat Esther and then
applying them to their particular perek(chapter).
A special thanks to Golda Feig and Neima Langner for teaching and reviewing
all of this material with the participants in this wonderful event; and to Katherine
Moss who hosted a Purim Seudah in her home
afterwards for about 50 people (including the megilla readers, the other women
who attended the reading, plus several spouses). In all, about 40 women attended
the megilla reading. A festive Congregational Kiddush, honouring our megilla
readers, was then hosted at BSW on the Shabbat following Purim. The Kiddush
was sponsored by their proud husbands and fathers.
And that's the gantze megilla (translation for those who may not know Yiddish: the whole story) about our women's megilla reading.
